17.5 wheel for 16” I know this has been covered

Hi everyone, I have read these previous posts.  Everything from custom made, to grinding brake calipers and changing axles.  What is the final world about just bolt on?  Aftermarket or new metric Dodge maybe drilled out lug holes?  Is this possible to ditch the 17.5 for 16” or 19.5?  Has anyone done it with minimal fabrication?


Also my 1973 Brave is listed as a model D201?  What does this mean is it a M300 M400? 


Thanks everyone, I just put a gear vendors over/under drive.  Wow!!! it is awesome.  I want to put a MSD throttle body fuel injector kit in next!  Love these old gals!

The D201 designation is Winnebago's..

To find what chassis you have you will want to find the chassis ID plate. Mine was located on the pane on the drivers side just under the dash. and should look like this.........


Yours may be in a different place.

I have been pouring over various rim sites and interchanges for the past couple of weeks, and it really depends on the bolt pattern you have. Here is a chart:

If yours is a 73, then you have 8 x 6.5. According to roadkill customs, this is a list of interchange rims.

However, those all have lug holes that are  too large. If you don't mind the machining cost, then some one might be able to bore out the holes and hook them up.

As a 16, though, you will always run the risk of the rim hitting the caliper. Due to differences in wear and tear, and wheel castings, sometimes they don't.

Aftermarket rims are a whole 'nother problem. If you can find some with 5/8th stud holes, then you may be able to to work around the calipers with the appropriate amount of spacing. I am not sure what that amount would be though.

8 lug 19.5 1 piece rims, though, should be pretty easy to come by. I know they came on some some 1.5 ton and 2 .5 ton International Trucks from the late 1970s, and can be found on some heavy duty equipment today (backhoes and such). As these rims would have been made for big trucks, the stud holes should be plenty big enough.  American Eagle also makes these new, and the chinese company Vision Hauler makes some as well.

I will have to go hunting 19.5s for mine as well; I have the Big 5 lug pattern (5 x 8) and there is no other interchange for those. :(

Found my tag it has listed as Model D20T   not D201?  GVWR  11000 LB  front 4500 LB rear 7500 LB


So that is my model I have never seen parts listed as Dodge D20T   it is always M300-500??? what the heck?

Thanks, I will keep seeking answers.  I have that 8 lug 5/8 holes.

The D20 is a Winnebago Specific designator. I believe D20T means it's a 20 footer, with Twin beds in the rear.

Hey Captain, I have no idea about the backspacing measurements, but I found these at Jegs

They are the correct pattern, and a 16. It says "Built With Maximum Caliper Clearance".

Might be something. It may or may not hold up to the weight though. A call to Mickey T's may be in order; their products are usually pretty robust, and I've seen two ton trucks run rims made for 3/4 or 1 tons.
