Standard ABS drain fittings for sinks and tubs?

It seems that I have to replace my sink and tub strainers… the ABS trap is cemented.

1) Do RV fixtures use standard household drain sizes?  Or will I likely have to purchase fittings at an RV store?
2) should the trap just be compression-fitted to the drain (allowing for easy alignment)?

Thanks

From what I have seen, yes they are standard size. But apparently, you don't want to mix pvc and abs. I assume that they are incompatible. Local hardware stores do not usually have abs stuff. Lowes has a few things. You may have to order the stuff online or from your local camper store.

I compression fitted my trap on - for easy alignment like you said, but also if you have remove it for clogs or rings.

I just replaced a broken trap under my kitchen sink with the standard 1 1/2" trap repair set from the hardware store. Old stuff is black, new one is white.  i??

I think the tub trap is cements. Much harder to access too

I got the tub and sinks out… maybe I'm just dealing with 35 year old plumbing… gonna start from scratch though.  I have to maybe use some releasing fluid to get the threaded drain fitting to separate.  Any tips for holding the strainer still while cranking on the fitting below the sink / tub to remove the drain?

A pair of needle nose pliers poked down in the drain will catch the tabs in the drain and then you can hold the pliers. If you can't reach around you can put a piece of wood or similar between the pliers handles so it can't rotate in the sink.

That's what I thought… needle-nose pliers.  I somehow think I may be cutting them off… I was scared I'd ruin the strainer.  Could still happen.  Thanks,

You aren't squeezing them, just dropping them in the holes to keep it from turning. It will not hurt anything. It should not be so tight that they will deform the strainer.

They are pretty tight.   When I can see adhesive dripped down the outside of a slip / compression fit trap, I'm not sure what to find in the actual drain hardware.  I guess they figured that for the expected lifespan of the rig, they should cement connections to avoid leaks… and maintenance.  After 35 years, this rig is getting overhauled.

If that is the case you may end up putting in a new drain and trap. Not hard at all. I am not sure about the size though, I would think it is the same as a household sink.

They do make a strainer socket you can buy to hold the strainer in place while you tighten down the nut from the bottom...Not sure if there worth buying though..I've seen them a Lowes.
