I finally have time to go through my new Old Winnebago.  I have thus far cleaned the carb and gotten it to start on the first crank.

I went to fill the holding tank and ended up pulling out the couch to clean up and find the leak in the filler neck.

I started up the water pump and checked the levels in the propane, water, and holding tanks.

On the panel control there are the following switches.

Panel Power
HT 1 (up)
HT 2 (down)
Propane
Water
Pump
And where the water heater label is, no switch.  A factory cover is over it.
So, how do I start the water heater?

I know it has one, I have been to the back of it.

It has a Atwood heater and the directions on the label say to turn it to pilot, hold red button and light.  Hold the red button for 1 min. then release.  Pilot should stay lit and then you turn it back to on.

One problem.  I don't have a red button.

When posting questions about appliances, fridge, furnace, water heater, etc.  It's most helpful to post the make & model number.  Posting the year and make of your RV doesn't help as there were options available to choose from and there's no info in the model brochures as to the make and model they were equipped with, and it's very common that the originals have already been replaced with something else.

There's a handy-dandy "Appliance Record" form on which you can document all the information for quick reference:

With that info, chances are that we have the installation/operation/troubleshooting manual in the Member Area - Manuals & Diagrams section.  These alone can answer many questions and are invaluable in troubleshooting the equipment.

Mine looked identical to this.  I had to turn the knob to pilot and hold it in, which gave the ignition spark and then continue holding it until the ignition rod thing glowed red, then I could release it and it would stay lit.

Oz, I don't know the make and model of the water heater.

However, problem solved.

If you have an Atwood heater that has a blue dial.  The dial reads, "OFF"  "ON"  "PILOT"
Turn the dial to pilot.  Hold it about a 1/4 turn past pilot for about 5 seconds while holding a flame to the pilot burner.  When you turn it back to PILOT.  It will fire up.  Give it a little time to stay constant then turn it back to ON.

On the back of the gas valve is a handle that goes left to right.  Push it left to get the water as hot as possible, turn it to the right to run cooler.

And thank you for the form.  I downloaded it and saved it. Thanks again.
