Hi guys

1972 dodge brave 18, needing advice how to prep this thing before I lay down a rubber roof.

Lots of Pin holes were filled over the years and the seams were kinda done .

I'm curious what to do about the goop that's on there as obviously I have to smear my roof goop over top.

Sand/scuff/clean and go for it?  Do you guys use a trowel for these applications or what?

Lauren and I did ours several years ago and are incredibly satisfied with the product. All that was required was to be sure to get all the silicon calk off. After that it was just tape around the roof vents etc. and then roll the product on. Here's a line to the company we delt with. http://www.brentwoodcoatings.com/rvroof.html

That looks like the stuff I use to use on my mobile home. If it is then it is not for motorhomes and definitely not as a primary roof, only a painted on coating over a sound metal roof.

It's suggested to be troweled on?
I don't think its thin as paint??

The PO put that stuff on over the rear bedroom area because of pinholes,... it IS NOT the proper coating to use, did NOT solve the problems, and I'm dreading the job of stripping and removing that stuff this coming year!!!

I was forced to coat OVER it, thoroughly, with an elastomeric, due to time and weather constraints,.... and will now have even MORE work and a bigger job to do later. I've been strongly considering a full membrane roof as every edge of the perimeter needs considerable attention as the typical "handy-man" efforts in these areas over the years has been poor at best, and will soon be damaging.

There's a huge difference in maintenance, repairs, and a new roof,... whether membrane or coated. And I need more than maintenance,... its more like considerable repair of "handy-man" work and neglect. And basically a new roof surface.

That Brentwood system is pretty good,... just don't neglect or overlook details. It's the details that makes a good system, more than just a coating or membrane. And the attention to the details of you new "rubber" roof will be no different. I'd remove all I can, hardware included, and get to a new smooth base. Pay special attention to those surface seams, openings, and the perimeter. The new rubber roof on the ol' Winnebago was wonderful,... just shoulda been done BEFORE damage necessitates.

Oh I plan on sanding the entire roof down, and cleaning the snot out of it to go on as good as possible

Look into Dicor products.

They have video's on youtube that you can check out and their stuff goes directly over the existing.

I am going out this weekend to where my motorhome is sitting and installing rails directly to my metal rough using dicor lap sealant.  This stuff is designed to hold tight and for a very long time.  I am using it to mount solar panels on to my roof.

The rails will be permanent but the panels will not.

Thanks for the suggestions, I have everything ready to go, just have to fix the rear water damage area in the bathroom before proceeding

You do realize that that product is designed to go OVER a rubber roof and not as a new roof over metal or wood don't you?

LJ-TJ

The stuff Lauren and I used is a rubber roof type material but is designed to seep through the pin holes and then stiffen up. It's designed to stay flexible. Hm? You might want to re think your product.

Ok, there are several different products being talked about on this thread but none of the ones with links are designed to be used as the PRIMARY roof! They are all designed to be a protective coating foe an otherwise sound roof.
