Need New Fuel Sending Unit ASAP

Not sure about the fuel pressure but, like Rick said, I'm sure that its how they bump up the psi on these things. However, I replaced my restricted one with non restricted. Took it out for a drive today and it drove beautifully. Made 25 mile trip with it and absolutely no hickups! Idling, hot soak restart, city, highway, hills - no problem. Even started better than it ever has! From cold, I used to need to crank it for a while to get it to fire but this morning, it maybe turned over twice before it started up! Not sure if it was the restrictor causing this problem or just a bad pump. Either way, problem seems to be solved and I'm not touching the fuel system any more! N:( Thanks for all the help guys!!

Well, here is one for you. Running my Pace Arrow getting it ready to move to the house and I am running it on a boat tank with the fuel line going to the factory mechanical pump. Did not block off the return line. I had it running for maybe ten minutes, jockeyed it around to face the opposite direction and backed up 50 feet................................. and ran out of gas. Now, I know a 454 gets bad mileage but 5 gallons in 15 minutes of mostly idle! Then I thought about it, the return line is sending gas back to the gas tank. I have now clamped off that line and I am not seeing the drastic drop in gas like before. I guess it depends on the pump as to the size of the restriction. Mine must have a pretty good sized hole to run out of gas that quick.

You posted as I was typing, I think you will find you got a bad pump out of the box, I see that a lot. I clamped off the return completely on this one to get it home. The pump is great, i know because I forgot to open the vent on the boat tank and it sucked the tank into a bowl shape!!!

Wow, that's suction! I was on the verge of doing the "temporary" Tank installation to get it home but, decided the tow was easier. Now with that vibe I'm getting from the driveshaft, I kinda wish I had...lol

Did he take a section of shaft out or just disconnect it at the rear and hang it? If he just hung it then rotating it 1/2 turn and bolting it back up should out it back where it was. Unless he did not bolt the caps in right and one is not seated in the yoke!

He just disconnected from the yoke on the diff then hung the shaft. I crawled under last night and shook it real good, seems tight. I called the tow company today and waiting to hear what they say before I start to unbolt stuff. I doubt they'll do anything about it but, there's even less chance of them covering a repair(if needed) if I start messing with it. I'm with ya though, that's where Ill start.
