Still trying to get the ole 79 Dodge winnie restored. Notice that the oil/gas gauges not working properly and looking on the back of the gauge there is a small device that is connected onto two little prongs. One of these prongs has broken loose from the the main gauge which I assume is factory attached to the gauge. Anyone have a manual or can tell me how to repair this or do I have to find me another gauge.
Thanks

The 79s may have a different scheme, but in the 74s and earlier the oil water temp. and fuel gauges got a regulated voltage from a -voltage limiter- . This item was like a small circuit breaker, it got 12v supplied to it when the ignition was on, and it opened/shut its contacts to provide an Average of about 5 volts. If that is what you have, it is a replaceable part when it fails, but I wont be able to check on the mopar number till I am back at work on monday. You might see what is selling on ebay. voltage regulator, limitor, gauge regulator, etc. Can you solder the pieces back together? It might take a little zinc chloride flux to make the solder joint clean enough. denison

Also, the gauges and the voltage limiter all need to have a good ground connection to work right. denison

Larry,
First, I have the same problem with my 1975 and am currenty looking for a replacement insterment panel. You are looking for a voltage regulator WELLS IVR607 at AutoZone $ 18.99. I got one, it was the same as I took out, it just didn't fix MY problem. Good luck. Let us know how you make out.   T.J.

It is called a voltage limiter my 76 manuals shows it but my parts manual does not have a number as they just started using the printed circut dash in 75 try ordering it from dodge by name --     Sea Hag

I just though of it,but Advanced Auto Supply in the states carries the voltage limiter as well as Auto Zone.Thats were I got mine from.
