Glad to be on board "classicwinnebagos.com". I'm another new guy and plan to stay. This Web Site is Hot and I wish I had found it years ago.
Starting with my Father, I've been around Winnebago's for over 35 years.  He had a 23' Indian.  I had a D21 Brave and now a  D26CRK Chieftain which has 76K original miles and needs lots of TLC and some minor restoration.
The RK layout is brand new to me,  But, after a 1200 mile shakedown cruise, I love it.  Bathroom is a bit tight, but everything else about the floorplan is more than liveable for me and my kids and Grand kids.
My question is: what is the purpose and designed use of the  piano-hinged "folding counter" (my words) behind the Gaucho seat back cushions.  The 2 cushions snap to it, but it seems to have no other purpose that I can figure out.   Anybody know?

My layout is actually a Rear Kitchen design.  The "Gaucho" is behind the driver seat  and converts to a double bed.  Thanks for your  interest and helpful suggestion.

I took a look at the factory brochure, but, unfortunately, it doesn' have anything which helps.  My first guess would be exactly what your is, that's it's a folding counter.  But, of course, pix will be the best way to tell.

i have the same set up in my rig. i allways thought it was for the kids to sleep on if they are small enough. mine came with the matress still in place. its cut so it will fold up behind the shelf when its folded up. also we use it for storage till we get to the campsite then take the stuff out and fold it up. its actually very handy having the extra stoage.
hope this helps a little.
