Howdy All,

Well I have a 1973 D22 Indian (M400) that has been weeping out the rear transmission seal for a while.  This A727 has the medium extension housing with park brake.

Shoes are now off to get relined.

I jotted the output seal number down "National S-0918", however my local NAPA cannot find a cross reference for the seal #.  Their books only list the slip yoke output seal for the A727.

Would anyone have another number for that seal?  Worse case is I take the seal out and get them to measure it up but I was hopeful that someone on here might have that info handy.

Also, has anyone ever had that park brake drum turned?

Thanks for your time

Since you are already a member, go ahead and get the Dodge chassis parts book.  The seal will be in there with the original Dodge part number.  THAT number can be crossreferenced either by any parts place like Napa, or by a Dodge dealer.

Thanks for the suggestion Kev.

For those interested, the dodge number for the seal is #2205 080 and the NAPA number appears to be #15620.

As a side note:  The shop relining the shoes notified me that those shoes, had been incorrectly relined previously.  The shoes I sent in had a lining thickness of 3/16" vs 1/8" his books called for.  There was a very obvious tapering of the lining material, due to wear, on the ends of the shoes.  I'm only speculating on how that difference in lining thickness could affect the brakes capability to hold the MH.  I would intuitively expect that more fiction material seating properly against the drum surface the better.  Might be something for people to think about if you have to get these shoes relined.
