Any one have any suggestions on removing rust and gunk from gas tanks other than POR-15?  Mine have a bunch of trash in them.  Flushed the aux tank with bunches of water haven't pulled the main yet and am sure it has trash also.  This thing hasn't been on the road in over 10 years.  Thanks,Ed

Drain fuel.  Remove the tank float assembly.  Allow to dry.

Mix 1 part muriatric acid with 10 parts water. The acid can be found at pool supply stores, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.  Allow to work in the tank until rust is gone, including if it eats all the way through the tank because the rust was that bad.  If so, you just saved yourself a nightmare later on, possibly at the worst of times.

Drain and remove all the muriatric mix by thorougly flushing the tank with water.  Allow to dry completely.

KBS coatings supplies several types of tank coatings.  There are other suppliers as well.  Coat the tank per product instructions.

*  Note:  One product which has been used widely for years is Kreem tank coating.  It costs less, but it does ave a known failure problem after about 4 years, particularly in areas where there are significant temperature variations throughout the seasons.
