Got through last summer with a mix of fiberglass resin goop and some inventive application tools.

This year I'm looking to make a longer lasting fix - so what are my options?

1.  New black water tank?
2.  New toilet and  tank/system?
3.  Something newfangled  they didn't have in '75?
4.  Keep fixing the original tank?

The system is the Thetford toilet and tank I believe is original to the coach.  It's a '75 D23.

Let me know if you need further info for a recommendation.

I searched but didn't see any lovely tutorials like the roof rebuild I did a couple years ago.  :)

Regards,
Bill

So, what is the trouble with yours?  Mine works, it just has trouble with leaking.  In looking on Ebay, it seems that tanks are readily available, but I've not measured what is there, and it seems that the tanks in the Winnie are of very different dimensions - the modern day tanks are very flat by comparison.

I had pretty good luck with my repair, but it was a last minute thing.

On my first '74 Winnie, you wouldn't believe the fiberglass job on the gray water tank.  To accurately describe it, I would have to say it was actually cocooned in fiberglass... literally and... it still leaked.  Thankfully, my black water tank was good.  But, the same things apply to both:

It can be repaired using plastic weld for minor cracking.  However, that can be a heck of job too.

The good news is, you can still get brand new ones!  Mobility RV is the place most people get them from.  In the Member Area navigation bar tab above, there's TONS of suppliers listed there for parts of all kinds.  Those resource pages are pretty valuable.

Here's a couple topics I found using "replace black water tank" in the search:

There are more posts, just take a look.

Holy crap!  I had NO notion that OEM sized parts were actually available.  And from what I can see, not at a scary expense either.  I guess that's my answer for that particular situation.

And you're right - The resource pages are indeed valuable.  Guess I should have poked around a bit more first. D:oH!

We do have a lot here.  It's almost amazing but, with over 10 years of member contributions to draw on, we have a wealth of knowledge and help available and it's always increasing.  There's always something new to learn, both from the "old hats" and new members as well.  Everyone's contributions are valuable.  There is no question which can't be asked.  There's no such thing as a dumb question.  We were all beginner RVers at one time so, questions are as valuable as the answers.  You can't have an answer without a question!   It takes a while to see everything we have.  The greatest resource we have is our members who help others find what they need.   The more you look around, the more "treasure boxes" of info you find.  Take your time, enjoy the site and it's great members!

I recommend replacement, not repair. I removed both of my original tanks and plastic welded the cracks. Two yrs later new cracks Plastic does degrade (ever seen a plastic bag just crumble)  The hardest part is the R&R  Cost for new tanks (2)is approx $380.00  You can update the toilet at the same time because they degrade also.   Frank

So it's your opinion that the mobility RV store is the best option as well?  Seems if they have exact fit tanks at a price like that... I simply could not go wrong.

Mobility R/V purchased the tank molds and the can duplicate any tank (Winnebago) that you send them the no from the side of the tank Everything is fresh they are made to order . you have to cut the holes in the top as there were so many applications of the same tank but its not difficult (make sure you remove the cutout) Hole saw for the small ones and a jigsaw
