How good are Monroe Shocks?

I had installed Bilsteins on my '74 Indian but, from reading a lot of other posts here, it would appear that Monroe shocks are as good or nearly as good but cost (quite a bit) less.  I know a lot of you have rode on Monroe and would like your feedback on them, particularly on RVs driven over 10 - 20,000 miles or so with them installed!

I have used Monroe SensaTrac Load Handler shocks, which had 1,500lb helper coils on them (per pair). I had them on the rear of my '83 Chevy C-10 that I replaced the original 10 bolt\5 leaf spring rear end with a 12 bolt\8 leaf spring rear from a 3/4 ton HD model...They rode pretty stiff when the truck was empty or not towing... but wasn't bad when you really loaded it up.

So far so good with ours.  We haven't hit the 10K mark yet...won't for some time.  We put them on in NY this year, drove them to NC, then GA, then LA, and then all over Arizona, and the ride is great.  The new steering stabilizer, also by Monroe, made a big difference in stability on the highway as well.

Just like the Samson tires though, time will tell a better story as far as their longevity is concerned.

everybody has there own opinion, but I'll never own another set of monroes. The last set I purchased, I took back off and got my money back. I put them on a 93 full size blazer we were towing with. They ruined the ride completely. I changed them out because my blazer had about 40,000 and we were pulling a race car and trailer, so I thought I should replace the shocks as my son was to be using it. I put the original shocks back on. I wasn't satisfied with the last few sets of monroes but the last set did me in.

No complaints on our Monroes so far...ride is perfect and smooth.  I guess it depends on not only your preferences, but also the application.  Like I said, we love them...but time will tell how long they last.
