Stabilizing output from older generator?

I have been wondering what some of you have done to stabilize the power coming from your older genset? I know mine drops below 100VAC and then catches back up moments later or in I turn off a large load it can jump up above 140VAC.

So what have you done to protect your new electronics from over volts and under voltage?

This is how refrigerators get fried.  I will never run my fridge on the generator again.  I have been looking for some kind of voltage regulator but so far haven't found such a thing, although I have been told it is the amp variation that does more harm than the voltage.  I'm not electrical savvy, so I don't know.

I have a surge protector similar to the 3470 in Daves post.  I use it on the pedestals.  Handles both over and under voltage.  Now I will use in inline with the genset.  It shuts off and resets in about 60 seconds. Most of the big boys with expensive 5 ers have build in voltage controllers. I believe mine is a progressive brand.
