Had a local transmission shop rebuild my tranny but ever since I got it back I cannot capture first gear with the gear shift.  Everything seems to be connected.  The shop says its the cable but the cable is working fine.  I would think the rooster tail on the tranny and the gear shift would work in unison.   I think they used all of the original parts (rooster tails) and they did not mess with the gear shift set up.  I can adjust the cable below and can get First gear but then I can't get Park which of course is on the opposite end of First.  Any ideas?   With a 318 and no overdrive it is geared low anyway and probably would not need to manually shift into first but would like to have it.   btw The transmission does shift automatically into first.
Any Ideas to correct?

It'll most likely be the way they hooked the shifter back up at the transmission end.  I had the same problem when I bought my '75 brave back in '93.  I couldn't start the engine in park (had to start in neutral) could not get first gear going down steep hills.  I had my local shop check it over and they told me that the shifter arm at the transmission had the linkage connected up too far out from the transmission so it wasn't getting full fulcrum movement.  He made the necessary adjustments and I regained park starting and 1st gear so no more hair-raising rides ???  down steep slopes.
