While driving my motor home this weekend it would loose power while trying to excelerate uphill. Run find on level ground. Can anyone give me some clues to what would make this happen? It has a 440 engine in it. Jipjob

Jip,
You will find that the fuel filters get clogged very easily in these older motorhomes that sat in people's driveways most of the time.   Most people never stabilized the fuel so it went bad and now clogs the fuel filters.

Jipjob,Ive had that problem, you are fuel starved.Change the filters. The best fix is change all the rubber fuel lines, may be a pinhole leak and you lose fuel pressure. The other fix that does work is add a GOOD electric fuel pump at rear by tank.Dont forget the oil pressure cut off switch when you put it on.Will cost sbout 100 dollars total with lines, clamps and hardware.Napa has all the parts for this. All this assumes your mechanical fuel pump is up to snuff.I did this fix and it really works.

Sorry booboo,   I should have read all the posts before I answered.   I just repeated what you said.    Anyway, my 440 did the same thing.   I always carried at least three extra fuel filters.   Got to the point that I could climb underneath and change one in 5 minutes with enough time for a smoke break.....but forget that....I quit smoking a year ago.

let me add this fix also works for vapor lock problems. One fellow had vapor lock every time he travelled over the rocky mountains, did this fix,end of problem. You can also bypass the mechanical pump and that would be better still, cause you wouldnt pump fuel to mech pump, then to carb,it would be direct to carb so it would get fuel to carb quicker.I still have to turn engine over about 15 seconds after it has sat to get fuel in carb and start, with direct feed it would fill carb real quick and save the grinding. But it still solves the problem with the mechanical pump in line to carb.
