I own a 82 Chev 6.2L Diesel Winnebago Brave. This will be the third starter to be put on it since I have owned it 6 years. I understand the heat from the exhaust will cause them to keep going out due to the position of the starter. Can you offer advice on what I can put over this starter to keep the heat off of it? It is located passenger bottom rear of motor. Thank you. Connie

On my 72 with gasoline engine the starter is protected by a heat shield - vital part too. I doubt the starter would last even 3 years of summer vacations without it. It is possible the heat shield was mounted to the manifold instead, and has rusted away. If I can find a pictorial of the heat shield that is on mine I would send you a picture of it, to give you an idea. Do you have microsoft word? I could send it in a word document, or I could just send a .jpg file if you can open and view/print them? deniso

try the heat schield used by racer car builders. they are avaiable at most
auto parts stores. it is a metal cover with and asbestos like insulation
between the case of the starter ans the cover. also, replacement starters
from checker auto are about half as much as one from a chevy dealer and ar
guarenteed for life. lse b, runaway

Thank you for the information and yes I do have word. My email address is connie5253@hotmail.com. I live in Houston and on top of the heat from the engine and the weather heat, it truly takes a beaten and so does my pocket book. Thanks again.
