weird chime sound?

Only when on CW do I get this very annoying sound from time to time. How to stop it?

Lower right of toolbox chat to left of smileys and such is a small speaker icon with a red circle and slash, that will mute the beeps..

Hmm does nothing when I click on it!..oh I see, one way it's grey, the other it's not. Which is which....hmmm.

refresh the browser after you do that..
