I intended to replace my stank carpeting with wood laminate floors, but I was told it might not hold up well due to humidity and temperature variations in an rv.

If you have one the laminate floor thing, Im curious as to how it is holding up over time. 2 years/5 years?  Would you have rather used something else? Hm?

Mr. T

I have laminate flooring.  It is about 5 years old and looks new.  Easy to clean, and that is important since I transport dogs.  Did have to lay out a rug so they wouldn't slip and slide.

The key to installing laminate is, leave a 1/4" expansion gap around the entire perimeter of the flooring. Cover this gap with quarter round trim, but be sure you nail the trim to the walls and not to the flooring, so it can still move.
Also, before installing, put down a layer of foam underlayment, this cushions the flooring, prevents squeaks, and helps the laminate slide better as it expands and contracts.

Laminate is meant to be a "floating" floor, meaning it is not physically fastened down to anything. This actually makes it ideal for RV's, as it can easily handle the flexing. Done properly, it should last many years.
