David, Group

I have a question concerning my front end and tires. I have notice when driving the steering wheel shakes not bad but it has side to side movement like I'm on a rail road track. I had the tires inspected and they are full of flat spots. At speeds of 0 to 50 noteable but not bad at speeds of 50 to 60 pretty bad at 65 not so bad but it gives the unit a vibration at speeds of over 65 it picks back up. I have jack her up and can find no play in the tie rods or steering box. I was also told that split rims can't really be balanced. My quest is if I replace the rims and tires with tubeless tires do you think the problem will go away. I also intend to put new shocks on the front and back but I'm not sure which to put on. I have one side the drivers side that is about a inch lower when on a flat area would air shocks fix this problem or do I need to break down and put air bags on her and get the springs re-arhed? I what her right but I don't want to just be sinking money in her monthly / yearly if its not nessary. Also by putting tubless tires in front will it effect the back tires if I keep them tubed for now.

Thanks
Chris Schurmann

Thanks BooBoo,

I've added my profile and a ton of picture for the group to see. I'll get around later today and add a few of the motor and under side also. Thanks for the welcome everyone !

My winny sags a little to the drivers side, if I am parked on a dead level surface -maybe not even an inch.   If it bothered me I would figure out if it was mostly a front spring or a rear spring, and I would swap the springs side for side.  If you are going to re-arch springs, you need to do both sides of an axle of course.   A guy on the mytravco.com site did that, you can see his story on the opening page - if your are patient.  He just drove the RV in to a spring specialist.   I would remove the springs myself and take them in, being very thrifty; but like I say, I have not been bothered by the sag.  Imsure it will get worse, then I will fix it.

As for not being able to balance split rims - over half of mine have balance weights on them. Mine rides as smooth as can be on the highway. When Im not the driver I can lie down in the back and sleep - though a large bump would wake me up. It is after all a truck chassis.
As far as I know I have the original shocks, and I believe them to be non-functional anymore. Doesn't seem to matter either.

Hey friend,

I have the same problem with my winnie.  I have split rims, and had the front wheels balanced, and a day later they were out of balance again.. I believe from what friends in the trucking industry have told me that split rims do that.  I would suggest getting tubeless, and radials on the front.  I believe your problems will go away.  As for your height difference, I dont have alot of experience on that, talk to denison or Sob.  Later.

I just put 2 new front tires and new non-split rims on her and two new shocks in the front no more streering issues it was busted shocks that had caused her slight vibration in the front.
