The brakes on my 69 winnebago are not very good. I've read that the way to determine if the boosters are working or not is to apply pressure to the brakes then start the engine. If the boosters are working the brake pedal should depress further. I tried this test and the pedal did not do anything. I then rolled under chassis and looked for vacuum leaks (while my assistant pressed on the brakes). I found
a leak on what I believe is the vacuum control valve unit of the booster brake. The large vacuum hose splits at a T connector and goes to each of the boosters. Just past the split there is an elbow which comes out of a plate on the booster. It is leaking from that plate (plate is loose). My question is does one normally replace the entire booster? Get the booster reconditioned? Or can the control valve be
repaired or replaced? Advice would be appreciated.     Gene  69 D22S

The vacuum power brake boosters can be rebuilt, although that could be questionable with the type of damage yours seems to have.  Where I live in Denver the place to go is Power Brake of Metro Denver, Inc.  8367 Conifer Road, 303-428-2209.  Even if you don't live around here it might be worth calling them for advice. I had the exact same problem with my 72 Brave. I pulled the booster and took it down to Napa and they sent it to a shop in Los Angeles which sent me a completely refurbished unit. I think it cost me about $150.     greatwhite
