Tips on maintaining an RV in Florida

In Florida we have what everyone calls "roaches." They're actually palmetto bugs. They can grow to two inches long. They love dark places and they will get into your RV, no matter how clean you keep it. They'll nest up and make quite a mess if they're not controlled. And even just one will give you the 'creeps' if it crawls on you when you're sleeping! One box of Harris Roach Tablets has served me well for several years. I put these around in drawers and cabinets. Some show signs of being chewed, but I haven't seen a 'roach' for a good long time.

Florida summers can be very humid. I bought a compact dehumidifier made in China and sold under several brand names on Amazon. It draws about 3 1/2 amps, but if you're on shore power it can be left on 24/7 and does a good job of preventing mildew and musty odor. Mine has run for 6 months. I had to take it apart to oil the fan motor bearing once, but other than that it's been good. Here's a link to it:

I don't know what's happened to the price. I paid less than $50.
