Im Really Thinking Of Using All New Gages My RV Is Also 26 Years New[To Me]  Am Having Trouble With Gas Gages My Question Is Can A New Gas Gage Be Hooked Directly To The Fuel Sending Unit--My Eng Is A Dodge 440 With Two Fuel Tanks The Selector switch works ok its on a tago switch just a off and on type.
If Gas Can Hook Up That Way Than Great  She Gets All New Gages Thanks All Replies Are A Blessing    Charlie P.

Charlie,
If your tank selector switch is just a on/off type switch with only 2 wires connected to it, then it is feeding a relay.  I believe one circuit on the relay contols power to the tank selector valve.  A 2nd circuit routes either the main or aux tank fuel level sending unit signal to the dash gauge.   I may not have everything exacly right (ie 12VDC may go to switch and relay is grounded) but this would work.  As you can see, the valve and the gauge circuits have to be seperate.  Thats why the relay is there.  Dash switches with 5 wires perform the relay function in the switch itself.

Dave's diagram seems to sum it all up nicely. The gauges themselves can be replaced, but you have to match the sender unit. It will have a specific resistance value on the sender when full and when empty. These range greatly from different mfrs. If you are going to replace the gauge with an aftermarket, make sure the resistance range is the same.

MATT    Thanks for your help,, if you  have a idea as to witch gages would be best please let me know..  If I can Hook up gas gages directly to sending units I will as my wires bihind dash are a mess PO"s changed color codes spliced anything handy instead of using the correct colors  even a couple of red [hot] wires just sticking up going noplace even found a red wire with clips on both ends just coiled up sitting there -- I think someone cliped one end to hot post of gas tago for I dont have any idea as to why ---other end also has a clip going noplace about 2ft of wire coiled up sitting there.    &*^%$#@  is what I think   haha     thanks  Charlie

Yea, check Egauges.com they may be able to help you. If your gauges are stock they can probably find an aftermarket that will match the resistance range.

Thanks Matt    Ill call them monday   I pulled them up[ gages look sweet ]  Got to go that way. Ill have gages every place  haha.
