I recently replaced all the incandescent interior light bulbs in my '78 Itasca with Hotsystem 1156 LED RV interior lights.  I have my RV in my shop and I plugged it into shore power so I could run a vacuum inside and do some cleaning.  While I was doing this, I noticed a hot wire/smoke smell and saw smoke coming from a couple of the light fixtures.  I opened the lenses and the LED bulbs were smoking hot!  I was reading on a different thread that when plugged into shore power, the inverter actually puts out 13.6V?  I have not had it out camping since I put the LED lights in (a bit cold for that in ND this time of year haha) so this was the first time I used the lights while plugged into shore power.  Has anyone else had this happen before?

LEDs are usually rated for a range of voltage from 8-16, or 9-36 volts. An led is a Light Emitting Diode, it is not a light bulb. They are used as such since they were found to put out light but they do produce heat which is dissipated through a heat sink somewhere in the LED circuit. It is possible that either you have the high quality Chinese (kidding here, they are junk) leds or possibly there is not enough heat dissipation for the bulb.
A running engine alternator puts out 14.5 volts so those bulbs should not have any problems with the voltage. They are standard brake light bulbs.
