heater controls

'72 Brave with a LS engine.  PO seemed to have used the old heater control valve, it was too stiff to function, the vent control lever was also inoperable, I need things to work so I got the vent control working while waiting for parts on the heater control side, the question is I only get a little bit of control lever travel but it seems to fully control the heater box, is this normal or do I have to adjust this out a bit? It bugs me the lever on the dash only moves about 1/2 it's full operation but seems to work anyway, thoughts?
