Switching to radials

ok, i want to replace my 7.5 x l6 bias ply tires with radials. i have the old split rims. would 235/85 x l6 be the equivalent?

I dont really know, but the original type of tires would not have had an aspect ratio of 85. It would have been 1.00. I suppose '85's would work, if they had the correct load rating, and weren't too much wider when mounted/inflated (so the sidewalls wont touch when mounted as duallies on the rear axle). The sidewalls must NOT touch, even where the radials bulge out at the bottom. I would ensure the radials you get are rated as light truck tires, probably with a 'D' load range for instance. Not passenger car tires.

what is a d rating in terms of relating to a ply rating? i don't understand the other way of rating.
