Well we were hoping to go stateside Tuesday to Akron/Canton Ohio to celebrate Thanksgiving -- however when I went out to start the Winne she wouldn't start.  If you pump the gas real fast and continuously she'll catch after she backfires through the carb. Once you get her going again if you step on the gas real fast she'll backfire again.  If you shut her down there's no guarantee she'll start again.

So far, I've checked for fuel and spark, replaced the coil and the white ballist resistor.

Anybody got any more ideas????

Thanks. T.J.

If you can un-hook the fuel supply to the carb and crank the engine a couple of times, you should get a nice jet of fuel squirting out. If the carb has fuel in the float bowl, you should see a thin stream of fuel squirting from the venturis when you depress the accelerator.
If the choke is sticking open, it can produce those symptoms, also if the secondaries on a 4 barrel are slightly open due to dirt jammed in the gap.
If you have a decent blue spark at the ends of the spark plug wires, its very unlikely its an ignition problem - but you could remove the distributor cap and make sure the centrifugal advance is returning all the way. While the cap is off, make sure its dry inside the cap. Make sure the wires are fully seated in the dist. cap terminals.
Usually if the fuel filter is badly clogged, it will start after sitting for a couple of minutes, but wont run well enough to get into high gear.
