On the Dodge tank (Main) the pickup tube is seperate from the sender unit.

When you unscrew the brass pickup tube fitting the tube does not come out with it.  The fitting is nothing more than a right angled threaded fitting with a hose barb on the other end.  To prevent clogging up the tube, I would think anyone who has sealed their tank with POR-15 would have had to remove the pickup tube in order to coat their tank.  How did you remove it?

i came across this while searching your problem may be a way out for you but most of the people that have issues with the tube are on boats seems the tube is put in as part of the tank whist it is being built any way here is the link and i will keep looking for you   http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/3rd-gen-tech-articles/130555-fuel-sump-installation-review.html

Fuel Sump Pump:
Interesting thought but I sure hope my TQ is not having to pull that much gas out of the tank at any one point in time such that I need that!   :(

I to have seen several boat related threads.  Dodge apparently welded or glued the tube in before welding the tank closed so I do not see that working.

I discovered there is also a generator tap off tube in mine (not used; Generator tap is on Aux tank).  I never knew Dodge installed them in the stock main tank.

I am going forward with rust dissolver with the tube installed.  There is no fuel sock and the tube goes all the way down to within 1/4 of the bottom (there never was room for a fuel sock).  Make sure you have good external gas filters.

There is no drain plug.  The main gas "fill" tube extends into the tank a ways (6 inches).  The 3/8" vent tube curves in.  Net result is that the only way to pour cleaning fluid out of the tank is via the fuel sender hole.  A real PITA.   Make sure you have a good non-metalic suction device to get the old/used fluids out.

NO, I do not mean a rubber hose and your mouth!   N:(

Naval Jelly (rust remover) is not spelled Navel jelly (A rounded, knotty depression in the center of a person's belly used to catch peanut butter and jam).  You can lick the Navel jelly but I do not think you want to lick the Naval jelly.

Here is one persons solution to fuel pickup tube problems:
QuoteI had the same problem about 4 years ago and took a different approach. I fashioned a y fitting clamped into the 1/2 inch vent hose for the tank, and then inserted a 1/4 inch nylon fuel line like a catheter through the vent line and into the tank. I did this as a temporary repair, but it has worked so well that I have not bothered to drop the tank and do the proper fix. I think a pack rat chewed into the line on top of the tank.
