Generator not charging battery..

I have a 73 d22.. 413 m375  ... The generator runs and powers motorhome but doesnt charge coach battery. Also when plugged in the converter will not charge coach battery. Converter functions everywhere else. I was thinking the the converter that is in the coach is not the kind that charges your batteries. Also thin king that the generator must run through converter thus not charging battery too. I read the brochure that came with the coach. The brochure for the converter that is in the coach. I believe it says that it doesnt charge the battery.. If so why would they put that in this coach? So what do you guys think? Im going to do some more poking around and start cleaning and replacing battery cables and connections...

What model generator and converter do you have?

My converter is a Phillips pc 301 a 2.  Generator is an Onan 2.5lk.. The converter manual says "This Phillips Power Coverter does not contain a Battery Charger Section. However, units are available that do contain charger sections." 
So does that mean my generator will not charge the coach battery either? Just feeds off it to start and keep running..That would be a strange set up. Hmmm.

Yup, the old Phillips you have was not designed to charge the batteries.  It was just a converter.  I had the original ones on both my '74 Indians.  Where to go from here?

In the mean time, until you upgrade your converter, a cheap 3 stage battery charger, like the ones they sell at Walmart (Shumacker is the brand, I think) will do the trick for now.  Whenever you are plugged into shore power or the genny is running, hook the battery charger up to your batteries and an outlet, and let it charge them up.

Thank you for your help. I thought so... Must be some sort of weekender package or something.. So yes time to fix this problem.. Thanks again for your help..
