Got a Coleman Mach TSR 15K BTU  that refuses to comply with my demands for cold air.  Compressor  bogs the generator out.  Rather  than throw several hundred dollars at servicing  a  20 year old unit, I think I will ad a few more  dollars  and get a  new one. I would like to hear from anyone/everyone that has replaced  a roof air unit. What  model,   likes, dislikes ,other info.

Thanks

At the time of the original post, it received an overwhelming number of replies from members who purchased Carrier V units and were extremely satisfied with them and their low cost.  However, in 2010,
Carrier discontinued servicing the RV market and the units are no longer available.

So, we are once again looking for input and info on roof air conditioner replacements!

If you are going to install it yourself (and it isn't all that hard) I would go with the Coleman.  The rear air conditioner on my HR gave up last year (it was a 1984 Coleman) so I took the front Coleman and put it on the rear and installed a new Dometic Brisk Air on the front.  The Coleman was a cinch to install where the Dometic was more complicated.  I, also, like the interior controls on the Coleman better than the Dometic.  However, both work very well and do what they were designed to do.  But, if I were to buy another new one, I would go with the Coleman.  That is just my opinion and worth what you paid for it.

The new Atwood A/C is another option.  Impressive specs and the price seems to be around $600 online complete.  Rick

Liking the Coleman Mach we had installed a couple of years ago.  Easy to install, reasonable to buy online (don't get ripped off like we did!  1100 bucks because I was too busy to install it myself, and the hack who came to install it didn't know what he was doing, so I ended up helping him anyways!), and they work great.  In retrospect, I think I should have found a really good AC repair guy and had them service the original Coleman on the roof...the one in the back, and old Coleman identical to the one in the front, works just as well as the new one, and is vintage 1989.  Old stuff was just made better, in my opinion.

Anyhow, the only real complaint I have about the new Coleman Mach is that if its SUPER humid out and its running on high all day, it has a tendency to start icing up and dripping into the living room.  Our Carrier ACs did the same thing, and even the old one in the back will do it if its brutally humid and hot outside.  And yes, I've cleaned out the drain holes and there isn't any roof sag.  Dripping from the ice condensate.  Its annoying, but I guess its the nature of the beast.
