I want to add some exterior storage compartments on my 69 d24. This would be low on the body below where the interior floor is. I have pulled a compartment door off a salvaged camper, so I will next have to make some sort of box with it's "ceiling" being the winnebago floor. Any suggestions? Plywood? I assume I would cover the exterior of it with thin aluminum since it will be exposed to the elements...

I did a search and someone else did something similar, but his door opened to the interior of the coach.
thanks

Brian,
You should have a welded bracket or something to hold up a the plywood box for this. The composite floor is weak, so.... if the basement compartment is too heavy or full, you could end up with the contents and the compartment all over the highway! a set of saddle mounts for a gas tank should work well for this...

You could also build a wooden box, and suspend it with threaded rods through the floor with really big BIG washers...this is the way our holding tank is mounted, so it should work!  As Tom said, I wouldn't really want to put REALLY heavy things in it if its only suspended by the floor and washers, so put your tools and toolboxes somewhere else, but this is the simple solution.  I was going to add a few to the Ark, but realized I simply don't have any clear space at all anywhere under the rig's skirt.  I am going to add external hatches, however, to access all the dead space under the bed.  Good luck!
