What is a DSI furnace ingition?

For a DSI style furnance (has an ignitor board), here  is some good info:

The difference is in the flame ignition method.  Pilot models use a thermocouple to verify that the pilot light is lit (gas valve monitors the pilot lit sense vs ignitor board monitoring the burner flame).

There is no pilot light on DSI models.

DSI lights the burner flame via a high voltage spark and monitor the flame via an electrical sense circuit.

There are 2 wire and 1 wire ignitor boards.  2 wire versions have a seperate probe for sensing the burner flame.  1 wire versions use the spark probe for both ignition and sensing.  The Dinosaur DSI replacement ignitor boards can be used for either style AND it is my understanding you can use them to convert from a 2 wire to 1 wire style (1 less probe to worry about).

Additionally, because the requirements (ignition sequence, temp sense, and protection devices) are simular, a lot of the furnance sequence of event info can also be applied to a water heater.   A water heater just doesn't have the blower, sail switch or time delay relay.  Actually, some of the info even applies to a refrigerator.   Hope the info helps.

My new 35000 Btu has this type ign I just have to change the setting on my digital thermostate and it lights heats and shuts off just like at home Now if only iy would automaticly switch from heat to A/C and be voice command  . Frank
