Installation notes on '73 replacement front brake lines

Hi Guys (and Gals). I posted this info in my updates in the roll-call message, but I'll post it here as well. I needed to replace the front brake flex lines on my 73 Winnie. I searched to no avil to find replacements with the brackets that mount to the frame. Per a previous post, I got some for a 79 Dodge 1 ton van. The lines were the same, but the mounts were different. I ground down the tabs flush where the lines mount to the brackets and popped the lines out of the bracket, and this left a nice rectangular hole in the bracket and a nice rectangular tab on the lines to go in those holes. I then drilled a couple of holes on each side of the line in the brackets and fastened the lines to the brackets with zip-ties, bled the brakes and BAM, it worked like a charm. (Well maybe BAM isn't the right word to use when working on brakes). Anyway, all is well and she stops just fine.

i also had to replace the brake lines from the frame to the calipers on my rm350 chassis. this has the front disk brakes. i coundn't find the replacements either. ended going to a brake shop that sells parts for racing. they just went to their bins and had just about every adapter you could think of for brake lines. showed him the old line and they replaced it with a nice stainless steel braided line. best part was they were very resonably priced at like $22.00 a line. i think they were cheaper than the originals that nobody could find. look cool too.

Hi Sal,

I for one would like some details on the adaptors you were able to get hold of.  I guess these are adaptors to connect to the brake caliper via the banjo bolt.  I would like to fit s/s braided lines to my Winnie.  They do give a more positive pedal over rubber lines. If you have Earl or Aeroquip No's please post.

hi ian,
the place i ended up at was called porterfield racing. they make high perfomance brake shoes and stuff. i'm not sure what the adapter #'s are but i will look next time i'm at the rig. they just matched the threads on my old hose when i brought it to them.
