Introduction to 1978Chieftain

This is my introduction message to get me access to the other features in the new Classic Winnebagos! web site.  My 1978 Chieftain is parked in my driveway.  I bought it to use as a cabin in the woods, but I can't get it to the woods because the timing chain slipped on the initial maiden voyage from Oklahoma City to Lawton, OK.  So, it sits waiting to be healed. -Ron Ballew, Lawton, OK.

Timing chains aren't ALL that hard to replace...just time consuming because of all the stuff you have to remove to get to the timing chain cover.

My apprentice Rick's timing chain finally died on his old Suburban...it slipped the plastic gear and stripped the teeth on his 350 motor.  We had a shop fix it for 700 bucks, and the truck died again because the shop didn't set the chain tensioner...we bought him another Suburban, an 87, with a 454...350's are nice for light duty, but not for heavy duty applications.
