Well the firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 , I believe, for both the 318 and the 413 and 440; though if memory serves me right, the 318 distributor (at the rear of the engine) turns clockwise, while for sure the distributor for the 413 and 440 (at the front of the engine near the radiator) turn counter-clockwise. I dont think you have told us which motor you have. A 73 Brave woujld come with a 'small block mopar' 318-3, unless the optional big block was ordered instead. That could have been a 413-1 if it was an early 73 - and would have a lube fitting on the water pump near the distributor. If it doesnt have that lube fitting, it would be the 440-3, which came in later 73s.
The firing order is cast into the top surface of the intake manifold, but is usually well covered up by wiring, hoses and stuff.

And the last time I bought a dist. cap for my 413, (I told them it was for a 440), it came with a numeral '1' molded onto the cap next to the # 1 wire tower. A great idea!

thanks for the schematic, i got everything on in the right order, and it runs like a dream now! me and the bago are back in action!
