I have a 72 Indian w/ a broken sliding window next to the table. This window has 2 sliding windows and 1 stationary window in the center. What is the best way to replace it, do I have to remove the entire window assembly? If so, how? I may end up needing new rubber, as it is in bad shape. Any detailed help would be appreciated.

i changed window channels on my 72 brave, took a lot of the frame off from the inside, and saw no easy way to replace the glass. it looked to me as if a seam in the aluminum frame would have to be pulled apart and a new glass squeezed in then the frame put back in the winnie. i may be wrong. there could be an easier way. maybe some glass replacement companies know the trick.

HAL HERE. TO REPLACE THE GLASS YOU WILL HAVE TO REMOVE THE WINDOW. I REMOVED MINE BY PULLING THE INTER FRAME INSIDE OF THE COACH, REMOVEING ALL THE SCREWS. TAKING A SMALL PUTTY KNIFE, SLIDE IT UNDER THE OUTER FRAME TO BRAKE THE SEALENT LOOSE FROM THE SIDEING.{DO NOT PRY AS YOU WILL BEND THE ALUM.SIDEING AND FOAM} ONCE YOU HAVE IT LOOSE IT WILL COME OUT. THE FRAME IS HELD TOGETHER BY RIVETS. I DRILLED THEM OUT, ALLOWING THE FRAME TO SPREAD APART. WATCH THE 2 CENTER BRACES. I HAD TO BEND THE TABS STRAIGHT. WHILE I HAD THE WINDOW APART I REPLACED THE WEATHER STRIP CHANNEL. YOU CAN PICK UP NEW SEALENT AND THE WEATHER STRIP CHANNEL AT YOUR LOCAL WINNEBAGO DEALER. I HAVE THE PART NUMBER FOR THE WEATHER STRIP CHANNEL IF YOU NEED IT. I WAS GLAD THAT I ULLED THE WINDOWS BECOUSE I FOUND OUT THAT WATER WAS JUST STARTING TO LEAK THROUGH THE SEALENT INSEVERAL PLACES. SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF WORK BUT DID IT IN ABOUT 3 HOURS ON THE FIRST WINDOW AND ONLY 2 ON THE OTHER. BY THE WAY YOU WILL NEED HELP PUTTING THE WINDOW BACK IN. YOU WILL NEED SOME ONE TO HOLD THE WINDOW IN PLACE WHILE YOU ARE INSIDE INSTALLING THE INTER FRAME. HOPE THIS INFORMATION IS WHAT YOU NEED. FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME IF I CAN HELP YOU.

Hal (or anyone else with suggestions),

To bring new attention to an old subject... today I attempted to pull the rear side windows from my 70 winnie because I want to swap the one on the curb side (which slides but does not swing) with the one on the street side (which both slides and swings out at the bottom).  I unscrewed all of the screws inside and out, but could not get the window to budge.  I see now from your previous post that I need to loosen the sealant on the exterior.  However, I did not see any rivets holding the inside and outside frames together as you mentioned.  Are they hidden somewhere?  Any photos or further explanation would be greatly appreciated.

Peace,
Andrew

To try to clear things up. The interior and exterior frame are not rivited together. the 2 frames are justed screwed together.
I found the hardest part was getting a putty knif under the out side frame to release the frame from the sideing. Remember the alum. skin is real thin and with foam under it. So if you try to pry it out, it will dent or put holes in the sideing.
The outer frame is rivited together to hold the glass in the frame.

Hal, thanks for the clarification.  Can you post the part number or brand name for the sealant and weather strip channel you used around the window when you put it back together?

oops just to clarify, since I'm new to the terminology... by sealant I mean the black stuff between the outside window frame and the siding on motorhome body itself... the stuff I'll need a putty knife to separate.

the winnebago dealer part number for the weather strip channel is 002324-02-000 for 1/8" glass, 042077-01-000 for 3/16" glass.
the sealer ribbon you can pick up at any rv repair or parts shop. i got mine at camping world.
