How long should a 413 last?

I have decent shape 72 Indian w/ the original 413 and I believe 727 trans that has 64,000 miles them.

     My question is; what is the typical life expectancy, in miles, for the 413 and trans?

      The rig is used for camping and towing dirt bikes to the deserts in southern california. It has been well maintained and rarely abused, although on several occasions we race other motorhomes from stoplights or take it to 75 mph sometimes to pass new motorhomes because she runs so strong. I know these guys in there new rigs hate this because we can see the shock on their face as we pass them.

     Anyhow, the reason I ask is because I am always having to fix something minor on it and would hate to have something major go out. If these engines do not normally last over 90 to 100k then I should probably sell her before I put any more $ in her.   Dave

I think if you take half decent care of it, the 413 will outlast several owners, three or four roofs, and 100 fuel filters. But if you run it overheated, or too lean, or with dirty oil, it might die at 25 or 30 years of age. The mileage isn't something I would worry about. denison

I have something like 125,000 on my 413. Who knows??? My last van had over 203,000 on it when I traded it in and it still ran good. The new one won't see that, I'd be willing to bet.

I guess I can reply to my own message from 1.5 years ago since it was brought back up. She is still running strong but needs a tune up and exhaust leak fixed. As usual their is always sometime to fix on every trip, sometimes it is something that I want to make better and other times it is necessary to get home. All in all we have a great time going places when we get a chance and the experience is worth the effort (sometimes). For any others that are concerned about the engines, I think there will usually be other problems that will occur before the engine goes, so long as it is maintained properly.
