I have a 1984 holiday rambler on a p30 chevy chassis with 8r 19.5 tires. Does anyone know where I can get some alumium rims for it. I'll need 6 due to it having a tag axle.

Do you mean hubcaps/simulators?  or the actual rims?  19.5" are common size for tractor trailer tires so you might have luck on a truck accessory site.  I've only seen aluminum sims on P30 rigs but never actual alloy rims...

I've never seen 19.5's on any of the rigs I have ever driven or know of any on big rigs. They use 22.5's and 24's. 20's on the older stuff.

I have seen aluminum on late model wreckers and high end pick ups with 19.5's

Excellent choice in getting Alloy wheels. Not only do they look good but think of the fuel savings to come. In reducing the "UNSPRUNG MASS" your ride will improve your shocks will have an easier job of keeping your lessened load controlled. While the initial price is a major show stopper for most all of us the overall results are amazing & rewarding. I performed work on a GMC RV that has six of these ALCOA ALLOY wheels. It changed the way it handled & drove tremendously. My learned advice is to purchase them new with all the caps & nuts. This way you know the history & no damage that can't be seen to haunt you. I could go on about the benefits but but I'm sure you already know them. Good choice for your Rv. I might also recommend a compliment for your new wheels, Install a complete set of "Centramatic wheel balancers behind your new wheels & never worry about tire/wheel balancing EVER again. I've been running them for around five years now & couldn't be happier with a product of this nature.    Have a good holiday & happy hunting. GONMAD

Wouldn't that mean you need eight? Never really thought about it but you guys with tags, do you have duals on the front and single on the rear

He'll need 8 rims or 6 simulators. Maybe he's referring to the stock hub cab covers that are attached with a tension device on the rims and the simulator is screwed into the middle. I like mine since it makes it look vintage but when those things get off center it looks like they're about to fly off the rim and people honking their horns to let you know  :)rotflmao .

On Dualies only the outer rims are alloy. The inners are almost always stock steel. There might be exceptions but I've seen none. I have seen an Itasca with a tag & alloys all around but the inners were steel.

Rickf1985

Steel against aluminum is not a good combination, especially if you travel in the winter with road salt. Used to have a lot of problems with the aluminum rims locking to the steel drums. When you got it off the aluminum was very badly pitted and etched. I guess as long as you kept a good epoxy paint on the steels you would be alright. That would eliminate rotating the tires though.

Rick, Unless you have an out of alignment problem or a balancing problem eating tires , These tires today dont last long enough to need rotating I rotated my first set twice @ 3000 mi  But the 7 year sidewall cracks made replacement necc. Even though the tread was still over 50% left on the most worn one Approx 14,000 Mi driven So all the work rotating was actually a waste of time . They are building them to fail after 7 yrs nowadays I have seen tires in the junk yards that were over 60 yrs old and still not cracked , The Japanese tires seem to last longer than 7 yrs as do top of the line Michelins  So they know how to make them last if they wanted too ! I use Firestone Transforce 10 ply  They wear well but cracks start showing @ 7 yr mark Frank

I was talking to the guy that runs the tire shop where I got my tires , I have the Samsons. He told me that Hichelin has a very bad reputation for not putting enough UV stabilizer in their tires and that the Samsons he has seen are lasting MUCH longer as far as weather and age cracking. They use the same compound as their big rig tires and those last for many, many years. A lot of people do not realize Samsons have been around for 20 plus years or more. I had them on a truck I was driving that long ago. I remember because I had never heard of them and I was overloaded on more then one occasion.

The person that started the thread hasn't chimmed in in any of this  Hm?. So is it rims or simulators??

Pogo397

I'm looking for the rims. Im using the infer steel rim on the dual. I have simulators on it now but makes it really hard to check the tires.

circleD

One thing about the beasts we have is trying to maintain the tires and brakes and dealing with those simulators and the brackets for them? I leave mine off while doing any work in those areas and put them on before camping because those make the look.

I simply cleaned and painted the steel rims white... :-).... rustoleum on with a brush.....  Gone didn't come with any Sims.  given I've spent a lot on her and not gotten much in the way of miles per gallon return... not sure that alloy rims would change anything..... sounds like a pack of Harley's, drives like a tank.... LOL...
