theres just me and I want to install new ac on the roof.the unit weighs 100lbs.i Know the Egyptians built some great stuff but I keep coming back to...there's just Me,again.so,how about some ideas for a 77 year old geezer.one idea I had was to
Use a long ladder from roof to ground but at the widest angle.oil up the ladder runners and slide and push the boxed ac up to the roof.thanks all. i??

The ladder idea is doable but never put any kind of lube on a ladder! Just to dangerous. Someone else on here just did that and apparently they were lucky enough to have a good Samaritan run over to help get the AC over the last bit of ladder. Remember, getting it up there is one thing but then you have to get it over the top of the ladder or in some other fashion you need to get it off the ladder and onto the roof.

If you do use a ladder at a wide angle be sure to stake the bottom or it will slide out on you. Also, when you get to the center point heightwise, you and the AC could be enough weight to collapse the ladder.
Not suggesting you are obese, but...... i?? i?? i??

1) Tie up AC securely with a rope.
2) Park under bridge.
3) Lower down to roof.

Or just swing by next time you're in MN and I will give you a hand.

A typical 13,000 BTU roof air conditioner weighs @ 100 lbs.  How tall is your ladder?

1.  If you can pull under a strong tree limb @ 12', you can rent a reduction gear block and tackle, chain it over the limb, close to the main trunk, but out far enough to get it onto the roof, then lift the air conditioner, drive under it, and lower it onto the roof.  Would be better if you know someone with a garage with heavy beams big enough and high enough to do the same.

2.  Pay a couple of younger guys $10 each to put it up there for you.

3.  Calculate the angle, height, weight and trajectory.  Put ac on one end of a see-saw, then jump from the correct height onto the other end... If it works or not, it'll be viral on youtube...

Why am I seeing a new sunroof where the AC was dropped through? i??

I kinda like number 3.  W% :)rotflmao I am lucky enough to have a front end loader although it has to be no more than an inch from the side of the coach to get the bucket over the roof far enough to be useful at that height. And the clutch is real touchy. I don't think I will be doing that anytime soon. That may be another You Tube candidate.  ??? N:(

My additional advice is to always leave the AC in the box with its styrofoam packing material until its up on the roof...lol!

When I replaced my A/C with a newer model I parked The R/V next to my Sons rear second floor deck Removed a few banister uprights The R/V was about a ft lower No big deal getting units up onto deck or back down Very easy dealing with 1 ft difference !  N:( Frank

I used the block and tackle route with a tree in the yard.  Used a climbing rope from harbor freight with two pulleys.  Tied one end to the Ac and the other end to my garden tractor.  Pulled it right up to the limb and then pulled the motor home under it.  Lowered it down and placed it exactly where it belonged.  Worked like a charm.
