So I just completed a very frustrating project on my 1987 Chieftain. I decided that the old stripes that were cracked and faded had to go and repainting was in order. After reading all the posts and comments on getting the decals off, I will say that I used 4 of the decal and adhesive remover wheels on one side.  The 3M version works no better than the off brand, so don't waste your $$.Also, the 20$ per can 3M adhesive remover does nothing. On the opposite side I decided to try citrus strip and a scraper after seeing a post on here somewhere, THANK YOU!! it works with minimal effort for the most part but will damage the fiberglass if left on too long.   After the stripes were removed, I scrubbed the entire exterior with purple stuff and red scotchbrite followed by a rag with lacquer thinner.  For the paint, I couldn't spray in my neighborhood so after many conversations and reading of various posts, I decided on single stage PPG paint in a tan that almost matches the original.  Taped the windows and anything else that didn't need paint. I tried a couple different roller types and ended up with a smooth surface 4" roller from Lowes, not the small diameter but the same as a normal home roller. I thinned with the proper slow reducer and lessened the amount some. The paint went on great!! No runs, no tipping with a brush. I was amazed! This was followed by a new awning fabric. I also repaired some delimitation which is an entire other post to be typed, but th paint looks great.
Now If anyone knows a good location to get the plastic rear corners, and a windshield I am still looking.

There's a saying going around. "Pictures or it didn't happen!"  ;)

Only one picture and I didn't take one of the old striping.
