i just recently purchased and 1986 itasca windcruiser and am not sure how the choke works to help get it started and warmed up. the guy who sold it to said it was a lever to the left of pedals near the door, and also said i needed to pump it .. which to me makes no sense. i was wondering if i could get a little help from someone who may actually no.

sound like he installed a manual choke. if so pull it out. he is talking like you need to pump the gas pedal several times to get gas into the manifold.  once it starts you will need to back the choke off a little, or it will die on you.  then as it warms up you just keep pushing the choke back in.
If it were me i would open the dog house and remove the air cleaner and see for sure what is going on.  there should be an automatic choke, unless he has installed a different carb or took out the automatic choke. I have two elandans 85 and 89, both are carbs and are automatic chokes.
But would also help if knew engine type.

it's just a lever i can lift up and down. ill take a picture of it later today. i'm not sure about the automatic choke i wouldn't even know how to tell if it did have one and ill check for engine type also

The engine will be a 454 Chevy with a Rochester Quadrajet carburetor. The electric choke will be a black circular piece on the passenger side of the carburetor with a single wire going to it. If there is a cable there instead or attached to that spot then it has been converted to a manual choke.
