Here's my 2¢ worth. If you want the reliability on the road then plan on rebuilding the regulator if its there in the frame and replace every piece that you can while the tank is down. I even put new bolts and nuts on the tank straps. I know it'll cost more and time consuming but the feeling of reliability is worth it. Myself and others have done this task and its not easy nor fun.
And after you get done, you might have noticed something different on yours than other RVs due to a previous owner  D:oH! . Take pics for reference and you might be able to help someone stranded on the road with your new knowledge. Don't give up and please don't get MAD at others or yourself. It can be done.

CircleD - where did you get your bolts? Home Depot and lowes don't carry any bolts longer than 10 inches.

If you have any old fashioned hardware stores around they might have extra long bolts. Online you can get them from McMaster-Carr. If you can get to both ends you can use threaded rod but be sure to get quality stuff, not Chinese crap.

     Out here in Latté Land, the McClendon's hardware store in Woodinville, Washington, does have longer bolts, just as you suggested.  The local "home stores" such as Home Depot and Lowe's seem to quit at about 3 or 4 inches for the 1/4-20 bolts.  McClendon's has them in stainless steel up to 6 inches in length.

I found some long bolts at Fastenal. They had to be ordered but, should be here in 3 days.

For the record, I had 6 grade 5 1/2" bolts total and 3 straps. One bolt on each side of the strap. The four bolts on the front of the tank are 16 inches and the 2 in the back are 9 1/2"

D:oH! I had to cut mine off because I couldn't for the life of me turn them... Later to find the top nuts had been welded to the frame and the bolts welded to the nuts

And the other side was not removable? Usually you can drop at least one side of the strap without cutting.

Interesting, that is the same tank and fill setup as the Pace Arrow I am stripping, I will have to see if the bolts are welded in that one. It is a shame but that tank got a good sized dent in it when the PO bottomed it out in the hole I retrieved it from. I would not trust it now because the damage is on a seam.

Did you replace the fuel filter that is located at the  the chassis rail at the front step location?It will be an inline filter for 1/2 hose.I think  the ac # is 509.

You've ordered them, but do you have a farm supply store such as Tractor Supply or a Rural King? Ours here carry long bolts. Sorry I didn't reply earlier but didn't realize you would end up ordering. They carry threaded rods for sure.

Tractor Supply is ALL Chinese stuff, I use it for a lot of things but nothing critical. I guess it would be alright for a gas tank, I think I remember them being 1/2 bolts and there were 6 of them holding three straps. 80 gallons of gas is 480 lbs. plus the weight of the tank and you have to figure added stress from sloshing. Should be alright.
