My Onan 4BGEFR26100F wouldn't remain running after the start switch was released. After checking the oil pressure switch. I concluded it wasn't getting enough voltage from the generator. So I removed the brush block and cleaned the slip rings. Now it starts right and remains running when the start switch is released. But now my volts are 196 volts. It was 118 earlier this week. After adjusting the idle screw I got it down to 149 volts.   Has anybody else had this happen to them? I guess it time to buy a multimeter with HZ and adjust the governor rod. Any thoughts?

There is a service manual for this generator in the "Member's Area". Pay the $5 to join. It's well worth it and helps keep this site going.

The movie Twister - that research instrument? Yeah, she figured it out.

You need to get the rpm set right and the HZ meter will do that, after that it would be a voltage regulator issue.

That is what I have done. I was able to get everything within specs. Thanks
