points gap

have a 72 indian 413 engine old style points. What is the gap setting. Robert

Im thinking it was about .016" or .017". I dont consider it super critical, due to the low engine rpm. Then you need to set it to fire at about 8° BTDC. Be sure to pull the rotor off the end of the distributor shaft and put a drop of oil inside the top end. That will lube the centrifugal advance. You time these things with the vacuum advance disconnected from the carburetor. The compression ratio on a 413 is about 8-to-1, so again its not an engine that I worry about being exactly on the 8° mark. Mine is currently about 9° and was running fine.

Thanks for the info. Bought a new coil and condenser. Points look OK. Had a weak spark. Bob
