Hi, new member here.  I've got an 88 Superchief P30 chassis with a 454 engine that's in need of brake pads.  The local shops here in Spokane and I have all scoured all the obvious sources with no luck. Anyone know of a magical place that might have these gems?  Or maybe some info the would restart my search?

Any help is much appreciated.

I recently had a problem with locating rear brake shoes for my 72' Indian. I ended up having them re-bonded/ rivetted. I used Franklin Truck Supply, in Commerce, ca. However you may be able to find another truck place that can do the work, or send it out.

I suspect it is a matter of knowing what to ask for.
1st, check your VIN and verify you have 88 chassis.  Winnebago typically placed this years rig (e.g 88) on the previous year chassis (e.g 87)

2nd, do you have Front Disc/Rear Drum (JB8) or 4 wheel Disc brakes (JF9)? Rockauto carries pads and shoes for both variations.

Oh, this is a chevy chassis correct?  The Superchief could be on a Chevy chassis (454) or a John Deere chassis (Ford 460).

87 P30 will have all disc brakes all the way around... Rockauto is your friend... use them... :-)....  also 87 RV... 86 P30 unfinished chasis was used.... check your VIN...

Be careful with generalizations. My 91 was built in November 90 and is a 91 Winnebago AND is built on a 91 GMC P35 chassis...AND is front disc/rear drum which was still standard in 88.

That said, assuming the 88 has rear drums they will be 3 1/2 inches width so the front pads more likely than not are semi-metallic ACDELCO 17D149MX...get them on Amazon, Walmart, any parts store.

Bills comment is why I asked which vesion you have.

I think the rear drums are the rare ones, most of them that I have seen have rear discs going back to the early 80's. And like Dave said, it could be a John Deere which could explain the sourcing problem.

Thanks so much for all the replies!

It's an 88 on a 87 P30 Chevy chassis.  I can't get to it at the moment so I can't confirm if it's all disk or drums in the rear.

Well, That clears that up. These brake parts are readily available be it drum or disc. If you go to one of those box type auto stores like Autozone or Advance auto you will nine times out of ten get the deer in the headlight look and they will say they don't have it or it isn't made anymore. If these kids don't see it on the computer then it don't exist! Like was said, Rockauto for online or any smaller auto parts store or most NAPA stores although even they are getting into the computer stuff with the young counter guys that don't know squat. The one near me is like that now.

I have the same rig, discs all around, pads last year were an easy find at Napa. actually I bought loaded calipers, rig sat for 8 years in a heated shop but still, stuff gets old and brittle when not used, good luck with the fix!

Oreilly's  web site allows you to drill down through brake pads, Chevrolet, P30 and size of engine.  Both the Base model and step van seem to get the same part numbers.

You may be able to figure it out on your own, but may need to know the answer to JB8 JF9 question.

My '88 Itasca (P30) has discs on the rear.  I was amazed when they had a wheel off and I saw that.

Mine to, surprised me as well.  That is one huge caliper!   ;)

How thick are new disc-brake pads? I can only feel them and my index finger fits between so my 4 x
disc-brake pads are ca.  9mm...

My tag axle has drum brakes and the PO replaced them in 2012 - they are good, my handbrake works great...
