Earlier this year, while living full time in the RV, I tried a number of times to light the oven. From the looks of it and how clean it is, I highly doubt that it had ever been used, although the cooktop was and works fine. I was never able to get it lit even after following the directions and lying on the floor with a lighter trying to ignite the burner. Is there a trick to lighting it that I'm missing?

Ours is a Magic Chef, and it took us a while to figure it out.  Using a grill lighter, hold the flame over the "bulb" that is a mercury switch, which will be right over the port where the pilot light is (the flame should be pretty close to that port as well, so that it will catch).  Turn the oven dial to "pilot," and push in on it while holding the flame as mentioned above.  Once that bulb gets hot, a blue pilot flame will appear.  Keep pushing in on that dial for at least another 30 seconds.  When you release the dial, the blue flame should stay lit.  Now turn your oven temperature to where you want it, and wait a bit.  Soon the flame will spread from the pilot to the rest of the burner.  Hope that helps!

I swear I did that for more than a full minute and never got it to light. Guess I'll try it again. Question: Do you have any idea how close the temp on the dial matches the actual temp inside the oven?

Every oven is different.  Even the ones in homes.  Check it with a oven thermometer to get an accurate reading for your oven.  Also a trick here is to put an unglazed floor tile or pizza stone in your oven to dissipate the heat and to prevent overcooking in spots.

It always took mine a few minutes until the gas got to the oven, and it was a much newer unit.

If you wait more than 3 minutes and it won't light, I'm wondering if the gas just isn't getting there.

Can you smell the propane in the oven?  You should, even from the pilot tube.  Most certainly if you turn the temp control up.

If you smell nothing at all, there has to be some kind of blockage.
