Hi all!

First post here so hopefully I dont sound like an idiot  D:oH!

My Winnie is making horrible sounds when I press the brake pedal. Its a high pitched whining sound. The brakes work fine, no scraping, rubbing or grinding noises. It kind of sounds like when the power steering fluid is low on a vehicle. Could it just be brake fluid? Or is this a bigger issue? I just want to have some idea if I can fix it before I take it to a mechanic.

My other question is on the steering, there is SOOOO much play in the wheel, I asked my mechanic about it and he said it is normal for this type and year of RV. Is this true?

Thanks!

Oz

As for the loose steering, no... that is not normal.  A few things come into play.  Worn tie rod ends is one, and adjusting the steering gear box is another.

Here's a really good thread on the topic:

The brake noise could be the power steering pump. The brakes use a system called "hydroboost". It uses high pressure fluid from the power steering pump to create the boost for the brakes. The noise could very well be caused by the pump being low on fluid. Does the pump make noise when turning the steering wheel? If not, the hydroboost unit attached to the master cylinder may have a problem.

Actually it does make the noise when turning the steering wheel. I will check the fluids today :)
