1977 dodge F40 alt and fan belt

Hi, I have a dodge rv and it broke the alternator and fan belt.. I found the old belt and it measured 22 in long .. I ordered another belt but i cannot get the belt on the fan pulley because it is only an 1/8 in above the main drive pulley ,, Has anyone seen this problem before and what was the fix ..
