The bathroom faucet in my winnie has a diverter on the end of the faucet spout. I removed this diverter to check it out because it didn't divert the water to the shower. There is no rubber stopper iside of the faucet. It is metal to metal and so doesn't work very well. My questions are, was there ever a rubber washer in there and if so, can I buy a replacement washer or do I need to buy a new fixture?
Thanx in advance

Yes, there is supposed to be a thin O-ring around the diverter, just above the threads.  Since you probably cannot get the exact O-ring anymore, I would suggest going to a truck garage (yes, you read right    ).  Most truck garages carry a large assortment of neoprene and silicone O-rings for use on the large diesel engines.  You can also go to a CAT, Cummins or Detroit Diesel engine service center.

Take your old O-ring (if you have it) with you, or the part you need to put the O-ring on or in -- the parts guy can match this pretty easy.  One word of advice... if it is for a gasoline or diesel application, specify the neoprene; the silicone will dissolve in fuel relatively easy.

I am not sure what type of faucet diverter that you have, but if it is similar to the one in my motor home, I was able to remove the brass gate, and resurface it will a file. I then applied a thin coating of  RTV silicone to the surface and let it cure overnight before I reinstalled it. Works great, no leaks

I bought and installed a new faucet. It was time to change the connections for the faucets anyways. The old type of rubber connection was gonzo. I don't know how this got brought again but thanx for the info.

I walked mine into my local Ace hadware (emigh hardware in Sacramento) they not only rebuilt and repacked all the fittings, but replaced the diverter gasket and polished the whole thing up. Total cost, (are you ready) Under $4. It is a service this place provides and I love it. I always take my wierd projects to them and let them scratch their heads awhile. They almost always come up with a great answer.
