I have a 73 d18 w/ 31 2bbl. Rebuilt carb, new plugs, rotor, cap, wires, fuel filter. If i pull the plugs off cyl 7or 8 or both at the same time it doesnt affect the idle?! just a lopey missfire. It has new valves and seats and I replaced the heads my  self, I didn't replace the lifters, pushrods. I cannot find this missfire!  Thanks for any insight!

I love my small block Chryslers, I spent so much time in my youth with them. Pull a valve cover, the side that will give you the most visibility to  7 or 8. turn it over and see if you have movement of the valves.

You said you replaced the heads, I am assuming you had this problem prior to replacing them. Is this correct?

If so, it sounds as if you split the cam. If this isn't the case let me know I am intrigued. I love nothing more than a mechanical challenge.

I pulled the covers and turned it over. Everything seems to be working fine. The reason I had the heads rebuilt was two of the valves were burnt and several of the seats were bad. I had them put stellite valves and seats so it wouldnt happen again. Both cylinders 7&6 are dead(not 7&8). Its like they arent firing at all? I'm not sure what to do next.

Okay. 1st easy thing is to re-check the wire placement on the distributor cap. I'm sure you've probably done this a couple of times since your problem began.  I do not recall if you said, so I'll ask. Do you know if your getting fuel to the cylinders? If so then we can put that side to bed and focus on the ignition.

Its hard for me to tell if i am getting fuel to the cylinders. I am getting fuel through the carb, just rebuilt it. I am not sure if you got my message or not but i have checked the wire placement. Not sure if there is a diff firing order im missing? New cap and rotor and springy distributor.

If after turning it over to start you pull a plug on the non-firing cylinders are the plugs wet?

Let me check my books tonight for the firing order. I don't believe it will be different though.
