Hi guys,

Probably a silly question, but I'm wondering about escapes from the coach besides the obvious entrance door? In this new one there doesn't seem to be any emergency exit, at least not obviously. Now, it HAS had an entirely new roof and it's possible there were events that were not replaced, I have only the one 14" in the bathroom and the roof air as openings in the new roof. But, not even the windows? The big back window has a rubber gasket, and all the sides are in their original slides. Intended to just knock em out in case of emergency? Maybe I need to think about installing an emergency skylight too, like Sinn has. That's kinda neat, opens like a big vent, but if you pull a lever on the side the whole thing swings upward, screen and all, leaving plenty of room to climb out.

Anyway, what's up with the Winnie's lack?

On mine the rear window is the official emergency exit.  You can pull out the rubber 'thread' from around its gasket, and kick it out.   I haven't tried it yet, but that window is fairly easy to remove -in one piece- after pulling out that rubber insert.   I got a rear window out that way.   Had there been a fire I would have been kicking it instead.

Fire escapes were required by the RV code starting approximately 1972 or so... Winnebago's escape were usually if not always the back window.  If you have no red tag saying it is an escape, it has probably fallen off.  There has to be a clear plastic pull strip that connects to the pull-out rubber in order to remove the rubber.  It's like an easy-pull grab handle.  You have to have some kind of pull device or the window will be useless as an emergency exit.  I suppose the pull device maybe has fallen off or disintegrated over the years...

On my 69, there are 2 small levers on the back window that you lift up and the whole window opens pivots open.

Thanks guys. No levers and no "pull strips", but with these ideas in mind I'll take a closer look at it on Monday. Have to work tomorrow, then family stuff on Sunday, so I took a vacation day. Have Monday and Tuesday off though, and am planning at least one full Winnie day.

You guys make everything so darn difficult.
The walls on these things are nothing more than 1/4" 30yr old dry-rotted plywood, 1 1/2" Styrofoam, and very thin aluminum sheeting stapled together with staples.
Now, I am about 5' 10" tall & weigh about 220lbs., In the event of a fire, I am fairly certain that I pretty much can go right through the wall. Not saying I would recommend trying it, just that it probably wouldn't be very hard to do... Adrenaline is some amazing stuff. lol
I reserve the right to reject your reality and substitute my own...

Well, Lefty...

That was kinda obvious about doing the "Police! Search Warrant! KerSMASH!!" deal through the wall.... LOL! There is no doubt in my mind that no WAY those little sliding windows (or even the big rear one with the gasket) would stop ME in a fire. I'm just about the same size as you. Even The Boss, who is under 5' wouldn't hesitate to do the "bustin' OUTTA here! routine.. Anyway, I think she's looking for excuses to smash up my beloved obsession and time consuming Winnie...don't tempt her... rofl!. I was wondering about a dignified and planned exit, was all....roflmao!

Thank you, fellas.....
