I just did an LED light string test.  It is 15 cherry bulb LEDS in a string, powered by 2 C cell alkaline batteries.  They stayed bright for 100 hrs, they are getting just about dead now at 144 hours.  Thats pretty good power consumption, but as lights they are pretty much worthless.  You could use them to outline stuff well though, or as a night lite pretty nice.  Need to get a hold of a 12 volt string of white LEDS and see the light output.  Very impressed by the power consumption ,they are amazing.  Also ,no heat off the bulbs, actually they dissipate the little heat they make through the wires by the base.

BooBoo,
Were you testing the Hi intensity LED's, or the old run-of-the-mill button LEDs?
The automotive hi intensity LED's are bright enough to "blind" (just a figure of speech...) you, and they draw some current too, not as much as incandescents, but 4 2057/1157 replacements will run about 2 amps total (not counting the turn signals being on). And they do run cool.

They are the regular LEDS, likely the large size.  They are called cherries and look like a little globe.  I'm guessing they are the 5mm size? I started them up Wednesday 5pm,today Wednesday 1 week later they are still glowing,almost dead.

I tried the red 1157s from autozone,none lasted a week,that brand they carry is worthless.

The ones you refer to,they are 500 milliamps each?How many bulbs is per unit?
Supposedly the ones I'm testing are 20 milliamps each.Are they white?Have you tried em?Tell me more or add a link I can check out?

I think we need to get to the bottom of this LED thing and find out what the real world experience is with them.The prices  have dropped dramatically,you dont need to spend 50-150 dollars plus for bulbs(multi LED units) anymore.

They make LED robe lights,at 15 dollars a foot,unfortunately its 150 foot roll(Ouch!)
Sis has an incandescent rope,lights up pretty fair.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.

I got these LED 2057 replacements at Flying J. They're a generic brand (just on peg cards), and bright enough, but I got the white ones, since the taillights are Red already and the front parking laps are yellow. The current drain was measured at the fuse box, with the running lights disconnected, so I can't say for sure that that current measurement is totally correct, but it should be close. I also have to look at them again, to count the number of LED's in them, but there's a bunch, say 5-8?

As far as brightness, these things are much brighter than standard 1157's, and even if the voltage is low (like when you stop at a traffic light with the heater on high), they are still bright, unlike the 1157's dimming every time you stop.

I'm looking at LED replacements for the Marker lights, too, unfortunately, I'm not climbing up there until it's warm again.

I/m currently looking at LED'S on ebay for my GTC...I had some that I bought from a guy,but they wouldn't quite look right on it so i sold them.. Also LED replacement bulbs too...WOLF.
